I've been a fan of Yubico YubiKeys for years now. I started out using them on a personal level for MFA with LastPass, and today we use them for practically everything at the office. They work great as a smart card replacement for login to Windows using their PIV functionality, and now they make up one of the most secure ways to access Microsoft 365 as a security key. Their flexibility and physical reliability are unmatched for a device of their kind. We once had someone's dog swallow a YubiKey by accident, and, believe it or not, after washing it off once it came out the other end, it was still functional. If that doesn't speak to how indestructible they are, I don't know what would.
  • Works great as a smart card for logging on to Windows
  • Works great as a Security Key for secure logon to Microsoft 365
  • Practically indestructible
  • They need a few more designs on their Yubistyle Skinz to allow for more personalization
  • Honestly, I can't think of any other issues I've seen
Yubico YubiKeys work great as smart card replacements. We utilize them in conjunction with DUO for MFA at the desktop level, and we can configure the YubiKey as a secure key for Duo, as well as configure DUO to allow logon using smart cards to bypass the DUO requirement, which simplifies Windows logon using a PIN plus the YubiKey.

Whenever I log into a new computer, I value and appreciate my Yubico YubiKeys as a deep security layer to our company's protocol. The physical key is solid and is, what I feel, indestructible since I carry it on my key chain and it always works. I feel it's best method available to prevent hacking and unauthorized access to my business.
  • Sturdy and reliable - even though the key is jumbled in my pocket for years, it works every time.
  • Super secure - it's the safest way I know to prevent hacking
  • Super easy to use. Once it's set up, I just press my finger print on it, and I'm in!
  • A better way to validate a back-up, in the event I lose the device
  • a near field blue-tooth could be a nice addition (without compromising security)
  • Smaller connector make it compatible with USB-C
It's great for accessing your account while traveling our using a remote computer. It's less appropriate to use on a daily basis from your main desktop or laptop.

Our use of Yubico YubikKeys exceeds 8 years. Primarily, our need is to protect client based software and data that reside on portables, laptops and mobile phones. Our 6 keys ensures the office’s need to maintain HIPPA compliance and limits access by the unauthorized. i found that initial setup is straightforward but one has to adhere to the process. The first few keys took some time, but ongoing was easy. i highly recommend YubiKeys to ensure access control.
  • Handy, and portable
  • Fully encrypted
  • Reasonable price point, especially for bulk purchasing
  • Set up can be confusing
  • Upgrades make previous versions feature obsolete
  • Cost
Data control, and for our environment, the keys help up to ensure privacy protection. HIPPA compliance is a critical need. Limiting electronic prescription writing on certain enabled laptops also fulfills a requirement. Having the Yubico key portable allows movement through the office, and not limited to a specific work station. It helps with workload efficiency.

Yubico YubiKeys are a fantastic 2FA option. These little guys last forever, are fairly inexpensive, and offer a highly secure means of verifying that the access is authorized. I own several keys in case I need a backup, but I've yet to lose one, or see one fail. Been using the same Yubico YubiKey for a decade...

Yubico YubiKeys is excellent everywhere and always, especially as a backup to TOTP authentication. In some cases, perhaps you can't use a USB A, C or NFC, so you'll have TOTP. In other cases, you might not have your TOTP device, but you can use the USB or NFC options. Different methods of security are always nice.

Yubikeys are integrated with Userlock to provide 2FA for high risk users on a local active directory account. Also leveraged for a few 2FA functions on various websites. Stores multiple keys on one device making it a one stop shop for all our 2FA needs. Impressively durable during testing as users are quite hard on their devices here. Sent them through the wash, ran them over with a car etc. during testing and have only had one broken and we're still trying to figure out how the user did it. The story just doesn't line up for how tough these devices are.
  • Consistent delivery of 2FA keys
  • Durable as all heck
  • Easy configuration with matching software provider
  • Works just fine with Windows built in 2FA if needed
  • Could user a better management application
  • Mindriver is a bit of a pain if you need it
The Yubikeys work well for us in both a Windows and Mac environment. Stores plenty of types of keys to cover both your AD logins and a good number of websites or custom applications for 2FA. Easy configuration with their platinum partner Userlock that also gives a huge amount of insight into user login/logoff patterns along with PC control.

We are putting the solution in the hands of tomorrow's security leaders, introducing the potential impact by enabling Strong MFA and passwordless authentication. After years of Yubico's demonstrated value to the large MNCs I've served, securing IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS at scale, the collaboration with the non-profit that I serve only makes sense.
  • Thoughtful Human Centered Design Approach - it's simple.
  • Advanced deployments are documented - service excellence.
  • Reliable, Accurate, and Consistent login experience.
  • Works as advertised and then some - little to improve from a technical perspective.
Personal life protecting your most sensitive accounts. Professional life, protecting all of your accounts. IAM deployments, either through the use of a local SSO, Federated IdP, or right on the appsec stack, have demonstrated extreme value. Yubikey works well at the front door and continuous authentication deployments.

In my relatively small office, we use Yubico Yubikeys (specifically the 5C NFC) to secure access to the computers. I personally also use mine to secure our email server, our NAS that contains client files, and to secure our network & wifi routers. I opted to start using the Yubikeys because of the increase in cyber attacks and specifically the increase in ransomware attacks. Our state bar charges us with the requirement that we maintain competency in digital security and that we take take all necessary steps to protect client data and PII (like DOB, DL numbers, complete SSN, etc.). In the past I've noticed certain staff writing down their logins on post-it notes and either sticking them on their monitor or leaving them in the top desk drawer. I decided that rather than get after my staff and then try to monitor compliance, the Yubikeys were the way to go. Now even if they do leave their logins on a post-it note, no one will be able to access their computers without the physical key present. It wasn't a cheap solution, cheaper than a ransomware attack or having a client's PII compromised.
  • secures OS logins
  • allows easy access into my 1Password account
  • secures outlook email
  • there are still some compatibility issues
  • setting up the system can be confusing
the Yubikeys are great for securing computer login and supported software login/access. If I had multiple people using the same computer or workstation, I may not gone this route. I have my key linked to all of the office computers, and I need to access a computer after an employee has recently accessed it I sometimes get my authentication denied. I'm not sure if this is a normal issue or if perhaps these keys aren't intended to be used in this manner, but it can get annoying. At times I've had to reboot the computer to get it to authenticate my key.

The business problem came from the requirement of MFA for remote users, where some were not comfortable using their personal cell phones to either receive text messages or install 3rd party verification applications. By supplying them with a YubiKey, we were able to achieve the standard of security we were looking for without requiring use of personal equipment.
  • Secures access to web applications without needing cell phones or other personal devices.
  • Widely accepted across SaaS providers making adoption easy.
  • The setup process is fast and simple.
  • I'd feel better if the key were a little more solidly built - it feels a little flimsy
  • The design could also use a cap for the connection - I'm nervous having it on my key chain and users have mentioned the same concerns.
  • There seems to be some cracks forming in the support for security keys which is starting to mitigate the usefulness across an entire ecosystem.
Where we're looking to secure the core SaaS business applications on either a personal computer and/or a remote user who does not use a company cell phone. Some users do not want their personal devices associated with work in any way, and it is difficult to argue the point in some circumstances. This is where YubiKey became very useful to me.

YubiKeys are being used by a small part of people within the organization to act as a physical token for MFA.
  • Security: The YubiKey is a great option for securing accounts!
  • Portability.
  • Connection points: there are several types of YubiKeys available making it convenient to use with apple devices directly, for example. The lightening/USB-C option is a solid choice for if you have several mac or iPhone users leveraging the key.
  • The management application is confusing. It's very easy to invalidate your key/reset it by mistake.
  • Not a consistent experience across applications. This isn't necessarily YubiKey's fault, but it's enough to be an annoying quirk.
Yubico (and by extension, the YubiKey) are great and suited well in my opinion to organizations of any size.
